Four free rugby matches at the Rec to celebrate International Women’s Day

To celebrate International Women’s Day, Bath Rugby Foundation will host a day of women’s rugby at the Rec this weekend
Four matches have been arranged to take place at the home of Bath Rugby on Saturday, March 10.
Starting at 11am, there will be two girls’ games, followed by two ladies’ games, including Bath Spa University vs University of Bath and the Webb Ellis Somerset County Women’s Cup Final between Bath Rugby Ladies and North Petherton Rugby Club, in which Clare Daniels will be refereeing. Clare made history in 2016, when she became the first female match official in Premiership rugby.
There will also be the chance for women and girls to try their hand at refereeing as international official, Clare, will be providing an Introduction to Refereeing throughout the day.
The event has been organised by Bath Rugby Foundation’s Rob Pickup.
He said: “As part of Project Rugby we have been working with individuals who may never have played rugby before.
“We wanted to reward their participation in the programme with the opportunity to play at the Rec.
“The day will show the progression that girls can make in rugby – starting at school and then moving on to U18s at a club, university and then, possibly, a senior club like Bath Rugby Ladies.
“Hopefully it may inspire them to carry on playing or even try their hand at refereeing matches.”
