Snap into action
For under-confident children, the transition from Primary to Secondary school can be challenging. New school, new building, new classmates. Children can quickly fall into a cycle where they dread coming to school and stop enjoying lessons. Council surveys show that 17% of pupils in B&NES enjoy ‘hardly any’ of their lessons. This is well above the national average.
Snap into Action is a schools programme designed to slowly introduce vulnerable students to their new secondary school. It uses photography sessions to get children accustomed to the ins and outs of their new school environment. Each student is given an iPad to explore the school site – with instruction from Foundation coaches and a professional photographer. This is combined with tag rugby sessions to encourage team bonding between the new school mates.
