120 runners smash running and fundraising targets at Bath Half

Over 120 Bath Rugby Foundation runners raised record funds for the local charity at Bath Half

The award-winning Vitality Bath Half Marathon took place on Sunday 12th March. 30,000 people descended on Bath to watch 15,000 runners, elite and amateur, pushing themselves to the limit. Bath Rugby Foundation runners were treated to a surprise visit from Guy Mercer and Dave Attwood, with Club captain Mercer giving a motivational pre race team talk to help the runners run the race of their life.

Foundation runners were based at the Bath Rugby Clubhouse pre and post race for complimentary  food, drink and the all important massage from Mendip Massage, University of Bath Massage and Team Breakthrough Massage. Mercer and Attwood spent time with the runners, including Atwood’s wife, Brie who ran in aid of the charity.

Keen Foundation supporter Chris Masdin raised an impressive £1500 for the Foundation before even running a mile. He is expecting to raise even more money now the race is complete, running an impressive time of 1h33m.

Our runners also came from our own ranks, with a participant from the HITZ programme who was so inspired by what he saw whilst volunteering at previous events that he decided to take on the run himself. Josh completed the race in under two hours and thoroughly enjoyed it!

Brie Attwood, wife of Bath Rugby’s Dave Attwood, ran the race for the Foundation and said “Bath Rugby Foundation organised such an amazing day. The work they do with young kids is invaluable”

Guy Mercer, Club Captain, said, “It’s great to be here to support everyone running for Bath Rugby Foundation. It is an amazing charity and it’s really inspiring to see people push to their limit, raising money for a good cause. Great day.”

Many thanks to our runners, volunteers and supporters for making the day a great success! The money raised will change the lives of local young people in need.

Thanks also to the many local businesses who provided their time or their products to make our runners more comfortable, Taking Pictures, Bath Uni Massage massage, Scheckters Organics, Wessex Water, Fyffes bananas, B Skincare, Bristol Fruit Sales, Sainsburys Odd Down, and David Wyatt.
